Darrow, a thriving start-up leveraging the power of Machine Learning & AI, is looking for a Director of Litigation Underwriting to join our rapidly expanding US team. Our mission is to democratize justice by monitoring the web and uncovering legal violations that often go unnoticed. As the Director of Underwriting, you will play a pivotal role in institutionalizing our underwriting practice to accurately assess our litigation assets, contributing significantly to our data-for-justice revolution. Responsibilities

  • Lead and shape Darrow's underwriting practice and underwriting strategy, by developing and implementing underwriting processes and methodologies for litigation assets.
  • Conduct thorough research of litigation data to underwrite and evaluate litigation assets. 
  • Maintain precise records of all underwriting activities and partner with our teams to build a robust underwriting data infrastructure.
  • Partner with Darrow’s tech and client facing teams, and external experts to assess the risks associated with litigation assets and develop appropriate underwriting methods.
  • Identify critical data points impacting underwriting decisions and implement underwriting cadences.
  • Conduct regular reassessments to adapt to changes in the legal environment and stay current with the latest legal trends.


Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in litigation underwriting, with a preference for candidates who have served either as litigators or as litigation expert valuators.
  • Advanced degree in Law, Business, or related field. 
  • Strong understanding of legal principles, litigation processes, and court procedures.
  • Proficiency in analyzing complex legal and financial data.
  • Experience in risk assessments and making data-driven decisions.
  • Strong ability to prepare clear and concise underwriting reports and documentation to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership experience, with proven ability to lead projects from conception to completion independently.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.

  • Darrow offers a competitive compensation range of $200,000 - $350,000, influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
